A sturdy fence needs a strong foundation, and that starts with choosing the right posts. We know that deciding between concrete and timber—or figuring out exactly how deep you need to dig—can be the trickiest part of the job. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to answer all your burning questions. Explore the FAQs below to ensure your new fence stands tall and secure for years to come.
Pre-treated timber fence posts can last from 2-5 years. Regular treatment and appropriate caps or shaping can increase the lifespan of timber fence posts by preventing water absorption and subsequent rotting.
Installing timber fence posts is a job best done by two people. You need a shovel, gravel and concrete. 1. Plan and mark the layout for your fence posts. Make sure they are in a straight line, and far enough apart for your panels. 2. Dig a hole at each marker and add 1-2 inches of gravel. This will help stabilise the post. 3. Prepare the concrete mix according to packet instructions. 4. Stand a post upright in the first hole. One person should hold the post straight while the other pours post mix into the hole. 5. Leave to set as per bag instructions.
All our timber products are pressure-treated and stained during manufacture. They will not need to be treated again for at least 2 years.
